CHURUBUSCO, NY---Alvin L. Cowan, 73, formerly of State Route 11, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2014 at the CVPH Medical Center.
He was born in Chateaugay, NY on March 30, 1941, the son of Alfred and Mildred (Rhinehart) Cowan.
Alvin served our country in the United States Army by enlisting in July of 1959, and serving until his honorable discharge in July of 1962.
He worked at Georgia Pacific in Plattsburgh retiring after 26 years of service.
Alvin enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. His hobbies included hunting, gardening, woodworking, and auto mechanics.
Survivors include three children, Greg Cowan and his wife Ann of Keeseville, Craig Cowan and his wife Amy of Highgate Center, VT, and JoEllen Martineau and her husband Maurice, II, of Peru, NY; four siblings, Virginia VanWormer of Latham, NY, Erwin Cowan of Chateaugay, Glen Cowan and his wife Marie of Chateaugay, and Earl Cowan and his wife Virginia of Chateaugay; two sisters-in-law, Norma Cowan of Oxford, NY, and Beverly Cowan of Chateaugay; four grandchildren, Austin Martineau, Michelle Martineau, Savanna Martineau, and Maurice Martineau, III; many nieces and nephews.
Alvin was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Lawrence and Wayne Cowan; one sister and her husband Vera and Wes Ives; and one sister-in-law, Myrna Cowan.
Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in the spring in the Earlville Cemetery.
