Bernice R.
Lamb
August 2, 1933 – May 8, 2019
PLATTSBURGH, NY - Bernice Rachael (Colgan) Lamb, 85, of Route 3, Plattsburgh, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 in her home surrounded by her family.
She was born on the family farm in Ellenburg Depot, NY, the daughter of Wellington and Grace (Smith) Colgan on August 2, 1933.
Bernice attended Ellenburg Central School. She married Eric Grant Lamb (of Franklin Centre, Quebec) on October 28, 1953 in the Canaan Hill Church near Ellenburg Depot. Some years earlier Bernice and some girlfriends had seen Eric as he worked in a nearby field. The other girls thought Eric was SO handsome, but she SAID she didn't think he was that good looking. Yet she was the one who married him!
She enjoyed many special moments with her husband, including square dancing and visiting with friends and family. She took her children swimming and made picnics on many Sunday afternoons. She was a fantastic cook and baker. She enjoyed bowling in Chateaugay. She taught Sunday School and some of the students (including Eric Gibson) remember the first Bibles that she gave them. She helped on the family farm by driving tractor and washing the milking machines. She gathered the eggs in the family hen house and one morning, unexpectedly, she touched a live skunk, as they each reached for the same egg.
Survivors include her three children, Rev. John Eric Lamb of Allentown, PA and his wife Dr. Maritza Robert, Joy Barcomb and her husband Francis of Clifton Park, NY, and Judy Lamb of Plattsburgh; four grandsons, Kris Barcomb and his wife, Debbie, Dr. Timothy Barcomb, Brandon Barcomb and his wife, Claudia, and Robert Lamb; nine great-grandchildren, Lainey, Timothy, Caroline, Ryan, Stella, Reagan, Adelaide, Emily Bernice, and Grace Barcomb; two sisters-in-law, Marguerite Colgan of Ellenburg Corners and Iona Maither of Ormstown, Quebec; and several loving nieces and nephews in the USA and in Canada.
Bernicewas predeceased by her parents and her husband ; three brothers: Robert, Lester, and Thomas Colgan; and one sister, Ethelyn (Colgan) Lamb.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 12, 2 to 4 PM at the Rabideau Funeral Home in Ellenburg. Pastor Bob Phillips will preside at the funeral service Monday, May 13 at 10 AM in the Ellenburg Depot Wesleyan Church. Burial will follow in Sheldon Hill Cemetery beside Eric.
