Obituary

ALTONA--- Chandler A. Deyo, 86, of Devils Den Road, passed away June 3, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born December 31, 1931 in Altona, the son of Frank and Ella (Bodah) Deyo.

Chandler married the former Joan Veivia in Holy Angels Church on Thanksgiving Day in 1954.

He served as a parachutist in the United States Army from 1951-1954, and later went to work as a truck driver at the Plattsburgh Quarry for 37 years.

During his earlier years, Chandler enjoyed playing centerfield on the Altona Town Baseball Team.  His love of baseball carried over throughout his life as an avid fan of the New York Yankees.  He also enjoyed watching his New York Giants.  Chandler enjoyed doing woodwork and spending time gardening, especially tending to his gladiolas.  He loved traveling with his family and even visited the pope in Italy.  Above all else, Chandler was a man who put his family before anything.  The love he shared with each of them will forever be remembered with the memories they made together.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Joan Deyo; six children, Chandler Deyo and wife Sheila, Patricia Matthews and husband Jimmy, Debra Matthews, Elizabeth "Betty" Lamberton and husband Jeff, Mary Ellen Snide and husband Joey, and Carol Boulrice and husband Greg;  two brothers, Richard Deyo and wife Joan, and Stephen Deyo and wife Barbara;  two sisters, Ruth Wasnick and Rebecca Boyea and husband Curtis;  brother-in-law, Francis Veivia and wife Sandy;  15 grandchildren, Todd Deyo, Liza Deyo, Sara Knight and husband Jim, Tommy Matthews, Karie Matthews and companion Stephanie Snide, Kimberly Wilson and husband Kevin, Michael Matthews and companion Shelly St. Pierre, Kyle Matthews and companion Jenn Hayes, Kayla Gonyea, Katie Lobdell and companion Clint Adams, Ashley Brassard and husband Kyle, Emily Snide and companion Philip Bean, Alexis Boulrice, Gregory Boulrice, and Matthew Boulrice;  13 great-grandchildren (with two more expected any day now!);  and several nieces and nephews.

Chandler was predeceased by sister, Hilda Fennessy; brother, Roger Deyo; sister-in-law, Geraldine Darrah;  two sons-in-law, Leon Matthews and Jesse Matthews; and his four devoted canine companions, Shane, Miles, Princess and Laddie.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Rabideau Funeral Home in Ellenburg.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30 in Holy Angels Church in Altona.  Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
