Obituary

ELLENBURG DEPOT - Donald E Bombard, 82, of Route 11, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025.

Donald is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy (Nephew) Bombard;  his son, Scott Bombard and companion Sarah Hunter;  his brother Gary (Brenda) Bombard of Ellenburg Corners;  his niece, Anita Bombard;  his nephew, Gary Jr. (Linda) Bombard;  great-nephews Nathan (Nikka) Bombard and Ethan (Julianna) Bombard; and several great-great nieces and nephews.

Donald was born to Edgar "Tucker" Bombard (deceased) and Edna (Cashman) Bombard (deceased).

He attended Ellenburg Central School until his sophomore year when he had to help with the family farm after his father was electrocuted on the power line. Donald worked various jobs over the years to include Wilmer Nephews Ford Tractor Garage and Dick Nephews Motoski Garage.  He then moved on to join the Local Labor Union 186 working construction on Interstate 87 Thruway and Vermont 89 Thruway as a blaster. He also spent time working on the 785 Powerline and finished his working career for the Clinton County Highway Department where he worked from 1980 to 1997 until he was forced to retire do to health issues.

His love of hunting, fishing, and trapping led to his owning Bombard's Sporting Goods Store for 25 years where he sold various supplies.

He was a landowner and lifetime member of the White Birch Hunting Club, a member of the Ace Rod & Gun Club of Ellenburg, NY where he held the position of president for several years. He also spent 35 years as a NYS Trapping & Hunting safety instructor, an honorary member of the NRA, and Assistant Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 29.

Donald was also very active in the community to include serving on the Clinton County Planning Board for 12 years, an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus, Ellenburg Council 4441, 3rd Degree and an honorary member of the Ellenburg Depot Fire Department after serving 54 years.

Donald loved to socialize and looked forward to weekly dinners out with his wife and friends.  When he wasn't out socializing, he greatly enjoyed every moment he could spend with his best friend Kato.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Ellenburg Depot Fire Department or to St. Edmund's Church Fund.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 12th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Rabideau Funeral Home in Ellenburg.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Edmund's Church in Ellenburg.  Burial will be in the spring in the parish cemetery.
