ELLENBURG DEPOT, NY ---Douglas W. Baker, 83, of Canaan Rd., passed away Thursday December 25, 2014 at his home.
He was born in Ellenburg Depot on September 19, 1931 the son of Howard and Edith (Arksey) Baker.
Doug attended Ellenburg Central School. He married Gwendolyn Moore on March 11, 1950.
Doug belonged to the local union of Operating Engineers, he was also a member of the Ellenburg Depot Wesleyan Church and president of the Sheldon Hill Cemetery.
Doug retired as manager of McGregor's Hardware Store.
His favorite pastimes always included his family and especially the love of his life, whom he married when she was 16 and he was 18. Doug was a collector of antique Ford tractors. He shared many good times with his children at the annual Antique Tractor show held at the Clinton County Fairgrounds. He enjoyed decorating for every holiday with lights and ornaments throughout the house and yard. Many memories were made with his family on events such as tractor rides to his pumpkin patch where the great-grandchildren might find gold, pink and silver pumpkins. The Lord has blessed us with a perfect example of His love that flows from the head of our family through the generations. This love is what makes us a family.
Survivors include his wife Gwendolyn Baker of Ellenburg Depot; a son, Rodney Baker and his wife Joanne of Mooers; two daughters, Lyn Duffy and her husband Gary of Dannemora, Julie Finley and her husband Kevin of Ellenburg Depot; siblings Lyndon (Buzz) Baker of Merrill, Sherry Drown of Glens Falls, Garnett Covey of Plattsburgh; grandchildren, Amy& Erik Richard, Kami & Craig Hicks, Kelly & Cullen Coryer, Casey & Joe Kourofsky, Trevor & Maegan Finley, Candace & Jeremiah Cross, Brittany & James LaBombard, Cala Finley; great-grandchildren, Alex, Thomas, Gwendolyn, Samuel Lucy Lyn, Jackson, Maxwell, Addalyn, Grace, Gavin, Brycen and Morgin Nevaeh (expected to arrive in March of 2015).
Doug was predeceased by his parents, a son Randall Baker, a sister Trix Lloyd and granddaughter Morgin Baker.
Calling hours will be held Sunday December 28, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with the funeral to follow in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at a later date in the Sheldon Hill Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Ellenburg Depot Fire Department or the Mooers Camp Meeting Assocation in his memory.
