Eugene E. Bushey, 78, of State Route 11, Mooers Forks passed away Saturday, May 3, 2025 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Plattsburgh on April 12, 1947 the son of Ernest and Mildred (Burdo) Bushey.
Gene married Rita Sorrell on May 14, 1966 at St. Bernard's Church in Lyon Mountain.
Gene owned and operated Bushey's Auto Repair and Salvage Yard in Mooers Forks for 52 years. He was a councilman for 16 years serving on the town board of Mooers from 1998 to 2013. He was also heavily involved with the Catholic Church as an usher for St. Ann's and St. Joseph's Church in Mooers Forks and Mooers.
He drove school bus, starting in Altona, then retiring from Northern Adirondack Central School after 34 years.
Gene loved auto racing that was his passion. He raced at Airborne and was track champion in 1982 in the Hobby Division. He raced several other classes after that until his retirement in 1999. Gene was a proud sponsor of several race cars at Airborne and Mohawk. He has influenced so many other people in the sport he loved, he will be truly missed.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Rita Bushey of Mooers Forks; his children Pam (Bushey) and Danny Iby of Cadyville, Gene Bushey of Plattsburgh, Jimmy and Jill (Rock) Bushey of Cumberland Head; Grandchildren Madison Bushey and partner Danielle Miller of Wilard, NC, Kali Bushey and fiancé Taber Watson of Woodford, VT, Rachel Bushey of Champlain, Chris and Heather (Manor) Cayea, of Mooers, Lucas Cayea of Mooers; sisters Geraldine Bushey and partner Tom Burke of Hudson Fall, Rita Woodward and partner Richard Barbo of West Chazy, Lori and Peter Cenname of Mooers Forks; several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, May 8th at 11:00am at St. Ann's Church in Mooers Forks. A reception will follow at the Mooers Fire Department.
Donations my be made to the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center in Plattsburgh.
