ELLENBURG DEPOT – Eugene C. Nichols, 61, passed away unexpectedly at his home on November 29, 2019.

He was born in Washington, DC on March 21, 1958 the son of Clifton and Mary (Supernaw) Nichols.

Eugene graduated from Northern Adirondack Central School.  He then enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served his country from 1976 to 1982. During this period, Eugene married his lifelong friend and companion, the former Wanda Peryer, on July 25, 1981 at St. Edmund's Church.

Eugene worked at Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora as an Electronics Technician.

He was a member of the Ellenburg Depot Fire Department and was an devoted Knight in the Knights of Columbus.

Eugene was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.  He enjoyed planning many dinners and barbeques each year where friends and family gathered to share good times and lifelong memories.

Survivors include his loving wife of 38 years, Wanda Nichols of Ellenburg Depot;  sons, Christopher (Samantha) Nichols of Summerset, SD, Stuart (Kate) Nichols of Ellenburg Depot, Jared Nichols of Ellenburg Depot, and Evan Nichols of Ellenburg Depot;  daughter, Lyssa (Christopher) Terwilliger of Fort Huachuca, AZ;  brother, Kenneth (Lee) Nichols of Ellenburg Depot; sisters, Barbara LaClair of Plattsburgh and Mary (Ross "Joe") Dumas of West Chazy;  grandchildren, Edwin Nichols, Owen Nichols, Ariana Terwilliger, and Natalie Terwilliger;  and many nieces and nephews.

Eugene was predeceased by his parents and father-in-law.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2019 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Rabideau Funeral Home in Ellenburg.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Edmund's Church in Ellenburg.

Burial will take place in the spring in the parish cemetery.
