Obituary

MOOERS – Gerald A. Gadway of Depot Street, passed away April 12, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. He lived a good life for over 94 years.

He was born in Mooers Forks on November 21, 1931, the son of Leo and Ruby (Boulerice) Gadway, Sr.

Gerald married the former Marilyn Rabideau on September 12, 1953 in St. Ann’s Church in Mooers Forks. He devoted his life to Marilyn or “Girl” as he loved to call her and was proud of their 72 plus years of marriage.

When you heard the name Gerald Gadway, the words devoted and hard working came to mind. He was a hard working farmer for numerous years and was also known as being a great syrup maker. After years of farming, Gerald went to work in the production line setup at Wyeth Ayerst in Rouses Point.

The man could fix anything. You would find him and his “girl” on a ride and if he saw a lawn mower, it was going into the trunk. He would bring it home and sure enough would get it running. It always made his family laugh because he would say “that mower your mother and I picked up, well, I got it working”.

Gerald loved to pick blackberries and blueberries with usually one of his children in tow or he would just go off by himself. He also really enjoyed a good old campfire with his children, grandkids and great-grandkids where many stories were told, and just when they thought he was maybe taking a little nap, he had his ears wide open and would give out a little chuckle. Gerald had a smile where he did not have to speak any words. He smiled with his eyes, some say it was a little devilish!

Gerald lost his sight to macular degeneration several years ago, but you would still see him out mowing the lawn or in the garden. He never wanted to be seen sitting on the porch while us kids were helping with lawn care or cleanup.

His greatest joy was working alongside his son Lee on his farm, this truly made him smile and he was able to still get his hands dirty. Gerald was also always willing to lend a helping hand with whatever the task may be that his “girls” needed help with.

Gerald worked around all the obstacles that were handed to him. God only gives those obstacles to those that can carry them, and he passed that with flying colors. Sad to say the one obstacle he couldn’t get around was the dementia. That disease took our beloved Gerald, and we are saddened by the loss, but know that he is resting in the arms of the Lord.

We wish to thank the care he was given on the 7th floor at CVPH where he passed to go plant corn in heaven. We wish to also thank those at the Clinton County Nursing home that took care of him. Your words of kindness that you expressed in regards to our dad and husband will not be forgotten.
