ELLENBURG CENTER – James L. Carter, 71, of Ellenburg Center Road, passed away January 28, 2026.

He was born on March 5, 1954, son of Loyal and Theresa (Malark) Carter.

Jim married the former Debra Jarvis on September 7, 1974 in St. Edmund's Church in Ellenburg.

He was a truck driver for many years for various companies, but most recently with 3J's in Champlain and R.L. Valley.

Jim was dedicated to caring for his family as well as his community.  He was a proud 40 year member of the Ellenburg Center Fire Department and was recently presented with a cardiac arrest life save on August 16, 2023.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 51 years, Debra Carter;  his beloved daughter and son-in-law, Tori and Stanley Russell, Jr.;  mother-in-law, Betty Jarvis;  brothers, Robert Carter and his wife Myrna and Timmy Carter and his wife Lisa;  sisters, Lorraine Seney, Marion Carter, and Sharon LeClair and her husband Jerome;  godchildren, Rebecca Jarvis, Nicky Carter, Corey Carter, Miranda Douglas, Cody Douglas, Kevin Ryan, and Courtney Horster;  brothers-in-law, Harold G. Jarvis, Michael Jarvis and his wife Deborah, and Todd Jarvis and his wife Sally;  and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was predeceased by his parents;  his father-in-law, Harold Jarvis;  nephew and godson, Robert Seney, Jr. and nephew, Tyler LeClair.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Rabideau Funeral Home followed by a funeral service at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
