ELLENBURG CENTER---John J. Gregory, 78, of Brandy Brook Road, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 21, 2016 in Malone.
He was born in Lyon Mountain, NY on December 3, 1937 the son of Roy and Lillian (Garrow) Gregory. John entered the United States Army where he served his country from 1960 to 1962.
John married the former Mamie "Mae" Dunn on February 27, 1960 at the United Methodist Church in Ellenburg Center. He first began working at the Burke Quarry polishing and cutting stone and later worked at the quarry in Malone. John then went to work at Bea-Jay Manufacturing in Malone as Head Mechanic until health issues no longer allowed him to work.
In his younger years, John enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing. He also loved to spend time cutting wood for the winter months.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Mae Gregory of Ellenburg Center; seven siblings, Earl Gregory and his wife Phyllis of Plattsburgh, Bernard Gregory and his wife Debbie of Ellenburg Center, Lynn Duval of Chateaugay, Sue and Paul Duval of Ellenburg Center, Judy Gregory of Ellenburg Center, Nancy Gregory of Ellenburg Center, and Pat Gregory; his mother-in-law, Frances Dunn of Ellenburg Center; one sister-in-law, Judy Dunn of Ellenburg Center; several nieces and nephews; and his feline companion, Bandit.
John was predeceased by his parents, his father-in-law, Elmer Dunn; siblings Roy, Jr., Gerald, Donald, Lillian, Mary, and Paul; brother-in-law, Gary Dunn; and sister-in-law, Jean Dunn Backus.
Calling hours and funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Entombment will take place in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens in Ellenburg Depot.
