Joseph O.
Peryea
January 31, 1971 – January 25, 2023
ALTONA – Joseph O Peryea 51, of Altona passed away unexpectedly on January 25, 2023.
He was born in Plattsburgh on January 31, 1971. Joe graduated from Northern Adirondack Central School, where he was an outstanding baseball player, and carried his love for the game throughout his life.
He worked at Shonbek until he entered the academy to become a corrections officer in 1994. He worked downstate for a few years until he was transferred to Clinton Correctional, where he spent the remainder of his career until retiring after 25 years of service.
Joe was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and friend. Joe was very proud of his daughters and all of their accomplishments, but more so the wonderful young ladies they are. He supported them with everything from music, to academics, and most of all their sporting events. He worked hard all of his life, beginning on the family farm. He took pride in the fact that he always took care of his family, and would do anything for anyone. Joey was always the first to crack a joke, appropriate or not, and loved to make people laugh.
Joey was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and spending time in the woods on his beautiful property. He loved his dog, Katie, who was his sidekick. Joe often took her for rides on the mini bike. He loved sports, and could recite any statistic, naming himself the "King of Useless Knowledge." Joe was a dedicated Red Sox, Jets, Bruins, Syracuse, and Knicks fan, regardless of their record. He loved to go to Fenway with his girls to watch the Red Sox. He loved talking sports with anyone.
He was predeceased by his grandparents Francis and Teresa Peryea, and grandfather Otis Rabideau, as well as his father in law John Martin.
Survivors include his loving wife Marcy of twenty years, his daughters Abigail and Molly, mother Velma Peryea, his sister and brother in law Amy and Shawn Downey, brother and sister in laws Mike and Kerri Martin, Ted and Tammy Martin, Mother in law Sally Martin, nieces and nephews Tyler Martin, Olivia Downey, Jordan Winnie and Walker Martin, Dylan and Nicole Lamica, and Natasha Carter. As well as his next door neighbor and cousin Codie Parnaby, among many other loving cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, and his faithful dog, Katie.
The calling hours will be held on Monday, January 30th from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Rabideau Funeral Home in Ellenburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 31st at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Angels Church in Altona with a reception to follow at the QWL in Altona.
