Obituary

GRAND ISLE, VT - Kristy F. Wheel passed away peacefully August 10, 2022 surrounded by her loving daughter, friends and beloved dog, Jake.
Kristy Jean Foster, was born January 3, 1951. She grew up in Jay, Maine with her parents, Harold and Alice Foster and sister, Janice.
Kristy was riding horses by the time she was 4 years old and spent her whole life around them. She participated in horse shows throughout New England and collected countless ribbons and trophies.
She was a proud scholar and a member of nearly every club in high-school, from band, to softball, to french and glee club.
Kris, as she was affectionately known went on to The University of Maine, Orono to pursue a career as a Veterinary Tech and proudly graduated in 1970 with distinction and made the Dean's List.
Kristy lived in Ireland for half the year in 1972, working with horses and attending shows. She went on to continue her travels throughout Wales and England. She returned to New York City working as a Veterinary Tech during the 70s before eventually moving to Vermont. There she met and married Glyn Wilkinson, together they welcomed daughter, Amber in 1980.
Kristy spent many years working for Howard Johnson's as a waitress and later began working for the Postal Service as a letter carrier.
Again, proving what a hard worker and independent person she was. She met many life long friends through both of these employers.
Kristy later moved to Grand Isle and married Alan Wheel, where she was finally able have her own barn with many horses and began competing in barrel racing.
Later in her years, she bought her favorite home on Pearl Street and enjoyed having many farm animals, gardening and tending her flowers.
She learned the previous owners of her property, held Barn Dances and with her usual determination knew she needed to carry on that tradition. She spent many years hosting Barn Dances for everyone in town to enjoy.  She was well known in her community and served as a board member of the Grand Isle Development Review Board.
Kristy spent her retirement years as an avid hunter, taking care of her ponies and favorite dogs. You could always find her outside riding on her Gator.
Her favorite times were spent having drinks, listening to Willie Nelson and playing Parcheesi with her closest friends.
One of her greatest joys was the tradition of bringing her grandson,  Braden, to the horse races in Saratoga every summer.
Kristy is survived by her daughter, Amber Wilkinson and David Bouffard of South Burlington; grandson, Braden of South Burlington.
As well as life-long friends Marie Prescott, Drenda Beeck and Jill Mitchell.
Kristy had so many interests through her life. Anyone that knew her, loved her and knew she was a free spirit, enjoyed the simple things and never did anything in a traditional way.
Her family and friends will honor her with a celebration of life, held Saturday, August 27th 2:00 - 6:00 pm at her barn. There will be service and a time of sharing remembrances to begin at 2:00 pm, with music and a meal to follow.
