Obituary

ELLENBURG DEPOT – Leona I. Martin, 81, of Drown Road, passed away, March 12, 2020.

She was born in Plattsburgh on May 8, 1938, daughter of George and Evelyn (Stone) Lavalley.

Leona married Jerry Martin in 1958 at St. Ann's Church in Mooers Forks.  Jerry passed away in 2011.

She worked in various programs, including the MOM's program and flu clinics, at the Clinton County Health Department in Plattsburgh for many years until her retirement.

During her younger years, she enjoyed having huge water fights with her children, outside and inside the house!  Leona was known for her tasty large meals that served numerous family and friends throughout the community.  She was also a master gardener who enjoyed sharing her bountiful harvest and enjoyed crocheting doilies of every shape and size.

The love of her family, especially her grandchildren, will forever be remembered.  She cherished every moment spent with them, whether being at one of their sporting events or a night going camping.

Leona was loving and caring wife, mother, sister, and grandmother.  Her smile could light up a room and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She was a communicant of St. Edmund's Church, the Catholic Daughters, and the Ladies of St. Ann's.

Survivors include her children, Kevin (Wendy) Martin of Ellenburg Depot and Christine and (Brynn) Boyer of Peru;  grandchildren, Michelle (Matt) Lawrence, Haley (Matthew Arnold) Trombley, Cody (Courtney) Trombley, Ashley Martin, Alexis (Caeden Favreau) Martin, Cara (Garrett) Mastic, Rachel Boyer, and Brandon Boyer;  eight great-grandchildren;  brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert (Rosie) Martin, Wayne (Marge) Martin, Bruce (Connie) Martin, David (Annette) Martin, Steven (Nancy) Martin, Marie Lavalley, Janice (Leon) Trombley, Harriet Taylor, and John Demarse;  and numerous nieces and nephews.

Leona was predeceased by her husband; parents;  siblings, Leo Lavalley and Herman Lavalley; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gladys (Leo) Fortin, Grace Martin, and Jerome Taylor.
