Leonard G.
Lashway
September 20, 1925 – October 5, 2019
ELLENBURG DEPOT – Leonard G. Lashway, 94, of the Military Turnpike, Ellenburg Depot, passed away Saturday, October 5 th , 2019, at his home with his family by his side. He was born on September 20 th , 1925, to George and Martha (Demarais) Lashway.
Leonard worked as a dairy farmer for 43 years and had many other jobs during that time like truck driving, wood cutting and owning a sand and gravel business. His real passion was for real estate and for over 45 years he bought and sold land. He loved to, as he'd say, "wheel-n-deal".
Leonard had a good, long and full life. He always welcomed spending time with his family. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, cards and going for Sunday rides which usually resulted in a stop for ice cream. Leonard read the newspaper from front to back every day. What was happening in the news and in politics was of particular interest to him and prime topics of conversation.
Leonard is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Pearl (Boyea) Lashway whom he married on May 28 th , 1947; along with his children Gary (Amber) Lashway, Kelly (David) Smart, Cindy (Alex) Benware, Scott (Diana) Lashway, and a sister Linda (Beaman) LaBare. Also survived by Leonard's passing are his nine grandsons, Todd, Chad and Brad Lashway, Brady and Lucas Smart, Jacob and Patrick Benware, and, Evan and Reed Lashway, and four great-grandsons, Nathaniel, Dalton, Dustin and Nicholas, step grandson Norman (Robin) Guerin and step great-grandchildren Sarah and Kasey, sister-in-laws Margie Lashway, Doris Barcomb, and Mary Boyea, brother-in law Curtis (Rebecca) Boyea.
Leonard is predeceased by his parents; brothers Leo Lashway, Walter (Athelie) Lashway and Donald (Mildred) Lashway; and brother-in-laws Ralph (Olga) LaPierre, Casper Barcomb and Douglas Boyea.
Special thanks and gratitude to Leonard's caregiver, Ann Witt, who he said, "can do anything!" She gave him not only excellent care but treated him with dignity as a friend with her sparkling personality. Thanks also to Dr. Pelton for years of compassionate medical care and for going above and beyond.
