Obituary

ELLENBURG DEPOT – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Jane Seguin, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left this world unexpectedly on August 10, 2025, her 76th birthday. Born on August 10, 1949, in Plattsburgh, NY to Peter and Helen Mary (King) Seguin. Mary Jane was a beacon of love and strength throughout her life, and her legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.

On August 12, 1967, Mary Jane married Denis Dauphinais, with whom she shared many wonderful years and remained friends even after their divorce. They continued to enjoy dinners together, reflecting the importance she placed on family and connection.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her devoted parents, as well as her sisters Donna Knight, Helena Seguin, Sharron Juneau, her sister-in-law Mary (Hemingway) Seguin and an infant brother Fred Seguin. Though she faced the pain of losing loved ones, Mary Jane's spirit never wavered; instead, she embraced her role as a matriarch, instilling love and values in her family.

She is survived by her son; Joseph Dauphinais, her daughter; Nicole (Tom) Connor, and her son; Treavor Dauphinais. Mary Jane was a proud grandmother to Ava Dauphinais and Jordan Connor, who brought her immense joy and pride. She also raised her two beloved nieces, Helen Seguin and Heather Seguin, as her own daughters, providing them with love and guidance throughout their lives.

Mary Jane's family tree also includes her brothers, Peter (Mary) Seguin, Alan (Mary) Seguin, Joseph (Dawn) Seguin, her sister, Diane (Joseph Racik) Cebzanov, and her brother-in law Gerald (Sharron) Juneau. She leaves behind a vast network of extended family, including many nieces and nephews who were blessed to know her warmth and kindness. Mary Jane's beloved fur baby, Pipper, will also miss her dearly.

An avid gardener, Mary Jane spent countless hours nurturing her plants, tending to her garden with the same love and care she bestowed upon her family. Her home was a sanctuary of blooming flowers and vibrant life, a reflection of her nurturing spirit. Family time was sacred to her, and she cherished every moment spent with her loved ones, creating lasting memories that will be treasured forever.

Mary Jane was known for her loving, caring nature, and her strong-willed personality. Stubbornness ran in her family, and there was a common saying, "That's the Seguin in you," which perfectly encapsulated her tenacious spirit. She was a compassionate soul, passionate in her beliefs, and selfless beyond compare, embodying the very essence of what it means to be a saint.

A funeral service to honor Mary Jane's life will be held on August 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Edmunds Church. We invite all who knew and loved her to join us in celebrating the remarkable life she led and the indelible mark she left on our hearts.

In this time of sorrow, we take solace in the memories we shared with Mary Jane Seguin, a remarkable woman who gave so much love and joy to our lives. Her legacy of kindness, strength, and compassion will live on in all of us. Rest in peace, dear Mary Jane; you will be forever missed and never forgotten.
