ELLENBURG, NY---Maurice "Fred" Brunet, 85, of Glenns Way, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at the CVPH Medical Center. He was born in Ontario, Canada on August 13, 1930, the son of Emery and Rose Emma (Sauve) Brunet.
Fred worked at the Domtar Papermill in Cornwall, Ontario until 1956 when he purchased his farm in Ellenburg Center. He operated the farm until he purchased the Flamingo Motel and Torchroom Restaurant in Cornwall in 1977. He then sold the motel and restaurant in 1979 and returned to the farm, which he operated for several years along with his son, until the farm was sold in 2003.
Fred enjoyed old vehicles and tractors and was especially proud of his Red Plymouth, which he drove in many local parades. Above all else, Fred's priority in life was his family and friends. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with anyone and sharing memories he had lived. Fred was known for always looking for an adventure while riding around with family and sharing his stories of the past. You knew a good story was coming when he started his conversation with "I remember when…". Fred's stories will forever be missed, but will remain to be passed on for generations to come. His infectious smile will be remembered by all who knew him.
Survivors include his six children, Gilles and Nancy Brunet of Malone, Ronald and Betty Brunet of Ellenburg Center, Dale and Darlene Brunet of Ellenburg Center, Claude Brunet of Plattsburgh, Carol and Frank Dumas of Champlain, and Steven and Candy Brunet of Ellenburg Depot; three sisters, Claudette and Gerald Dow, Jacqueline and Albert Menard, and Lucienne and John McMillan; twelve grandchildren, Stephen Russell Melanie Desso, Travis Brunet, Brian Brunet, Brad Brunet, Kyle Brunet, Dustin Brunet, Tyler Bechard, Magan Bechard, Malinda Bechard, Cody Brunet, and Charley Brunet; 10 great-grandchildren (with one on the way); and several nieces and nephews.
