ELLENBURG DEPOT--- Maurice "Moe" Decoste, 67, of the Military Turnpike went into the arms of the Lord on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at the CVPH Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Mooers Forks, NY on October 4, 1944, the son of Ernest and Eldora (Brassard) Decoste.
Maurice married the former Hilda Manor at St. Edmund's Church in Ellenburg on July 31, 1965. He worked at Phil's Chevrolet for 18 years with his brother-in-law Phil. Moe was very involved in Phil's racing team and was a member of his pit crew. He then went to work for the New York State Department of Corrections for nearly 24 years most recently working in Chateaugay. Moe loved working in the woods and was an avid hunter and ice fisherman.
He enjoyed bowling and was part of the bowling league in Chateaugay and Plattsburgh for several years. Maurice was very active with the 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus and was presently serving as the Grand Knight for Council 4441 in Ellenburg Depot and was previously district deputy. He was very involved with his community and was a member of the Ellenburg Depot Fire Department.
Survivors include his loving wife of 46 years Hilda of Ellenburg; three daughters and sons-in-law, Julie and Stephen Garrow of Mooers, Diana and Scott Lashway of Ellenburg, and Kristy and Peter Rocha of Peru; his mother Eldora Decoste of Mooers; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronnie and Joyce Decoste of Roy, UT and Danny and Laurie Decoste of Mooers Forks; seven grandchildren, Ashley Garrow and fiancé Drew Burnell, Stephanie Garrow, Stephen Garrow, Jr., Evan Lashway, Reed Lashway, Grant Rocha, and one on the way that he was anxiously waiting to see.
He was predeceased by his father in 1978 and one sister, Thelma Wakefield.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 20, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Rabideau Funeral Home in Ellenburg. The Knights of Columbus will meet at the funeral home at 3:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Edmund's Church in Ellenburg.
Entombment will follow in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens in Ellenburg Depot.
