MOOERS FORKS- Robert Surprenant, 82, of Route 11, passed away April 19, 2019. He was born April 7, 1937 in Witherbee, NY, son of Aldemore Surprenant and Grace Valley.
Bobby enlisted in the United States Army and served his country from 1954 to 1957. He went on to meet the love of his life, the former Edith Rabideau. They married in St. Ann's Church in Mooers Forks on October 15, 1960.
Bobby worked as an Instrument Technician at Georgia Pacific and retired after 42 years of service.
He was a man of great faith, and devoted his life to family and friends. Bobby was a former Parish Council Member of St. Ann's Church and also served as a Reader, Eucharistic Minister, and former Trustee. He was currently serving as Trustee of the Knight of Columbus Council 6136 and also served on the GP Credit Union Supervisory Committee, the Town of Mooers Youth Commission and Assessment Grievance Committee, was a Union Trustee, a Cub Scout Leader, and former Chaplain and member of the House Committee of the VFW in Champlain, NY.
Bobby was a man who loved to visit and entertain all those friends and family who surrounded him. He loved to tell jokes, make people laugh, and be the "Life of the party!" Bobby also served as the Master of Ceremonies for the St. Ann's Parish Parade for over 25 years.
Bobby enjoyed spending time hunting, and especially his time golfing on the greens!
Survivors include his loving wife of over 58 years, Edith Surprenant; children, Dean Surprenant and wife Lisa, Darlene Coulum and husband John, and Darcy Connelly and husband Michael; sister, Joan Jozwick; grandchildren, Brittany Joy and husband Shawn, Brooke Surprenant, Lauren Coryea, Brandon Coryea and wife Justina, Jared Coryea, Alana Coulum, and Alexandra Coulum; and several nieces and nephews.
Bobby was predeceased by his daughter, Donna Coryea and her husband Greg; his parents; brothers-in-law, Herman Rabideau, Jr. and Charlie Trombley; sisters-in-law, Shirley Rabideau and Rita Rabideau; and nephew, Terry Rabideau.
The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at the CVPH Medical Center for their extraordinary care they provided to Robert.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 25 th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Rabideau Funeral Home, Ellenburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 26 th at 10:30 in St. Ann's Church in Mooers Forks. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with full Military Honors.
Donations in his memory may be made to St. Ann's Church or the Mooers EMT Department.
