LYON MOUNTAIN, NY---Steven A. Wilson, Sr., 53, of Phillips Court, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2014 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
He was born in Malone, NY on February 1, 1960, the son of Gail Wilson.
Steve graduated from Northern Adirondack Central in 1978 and later attended SUNY Canton. He married the former Becky Chase in 1986.
Steve retired as Sergeant from the NYS Department of Corrections in Lyon Mountain in 2007 after 25 ½ years of service. He had a love of music, not only listening to various genres, but also playing the piano. It was because of Steve that many local kids learned to play a variety of instruments as he encouraged them to play and practice. He was an avid sports fan and followed many national teams, including the New York Giants, the New York Mets, and especially loved to watch Bobby Orr and Cam Neely of the Boston Bruins. He was also a dedicated supporter of the local Lyon Mountain Miners Baseball Team. Steve played hockey and softball, liked to watch Westerns, and loved to go trail climbing and hiking with his wife Becky and their dog Ike.
He was the first Tek for the Lyon Mountain Volunteer Fire Department, and also served as past Fire Commissioner and past Rescue Captain.
Survivors include his loving wife of 27 years, Becky Wilson of Lyon Mountain; three children, Steven A. Wilson, Jr. and his companion Taylor Allen of Richmond, VA, Krista Wilson and her companion Karl Anderson of Richmond, VA, and Andrew S. Wilson of Lyon Mountain; his mother, Gail Wilson of Lyon Mountain; one sister, Liza Rushford and her husband Jon of Zebulon, NC; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ronald and Cindy Chase, Sr. of Lyon Mountain; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ronald and Jessica Chase, Jr. of Lyon Mountain; three nephews, Cameron Rushford, Ronald Chase, III, and Jayden Chase; his canine companion, Ike; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins of the Chase and Wilson families. Steve was a father figure to so many in the community, including James Stockwell and Cody Golovach. The family wishes to give a special Thank You to Dr. Griffin, Dr. Duus, Dr. Whitman, and all the nurses and staff at the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center. They also wish to thank Michael and Peggy Tolosky, Larry and Kathy LaClair, John and Nancy Stockwell, and the caring and compassionate staff on R5 at the CVPH Medical Center.
There will be no public calling hours at Steve's request. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 10, 2014 at1:00 p.m. in St. Bernard's Church in Lyon Mountain.
