ELLENBURG CENTER – Thelma L. LaBombard, age 93, passed away on September 19, 2026, in Greensboro, North Carolina.

She was born in Ellenburg, NY, the daughter of Patrick and Percy (Duso) Rock on February 10, 1933.

Thelma graduated from Ellenburg Central School. She married Richard LaBombard in Ellenburg on September 8, 1951. Together they owned and operated LaBombard Gulf Station from 1968 until Richard’s retirement due to illness with ALS. Richard passed away on June 10, 1995. Thelma was town clerk in the Town of Ellenburg for 44 years as well as Vital Records Registrar. She was a member of St. Edmund’s Church, the Altar Rosary Society, Catholic Daughters of America, Ellenburg Town Hall Theater, the Republican Committee and Secretary for the Ellenburg Center Fire Department.

Thelma was a dedicated caregiver to her family and the community she served. She provided healthcare for her husband Richard during his courageous 8 year battle with ALS, her handicapped granddaughter, Angela and brother-in-law, Leo LaBombard who was a quadriplegic for over 30 years. Her office was open to the public any day at any hour whenever anyone from the public stopped by for business. Her last 9 years were spent in Greensboro, NC surrounded by loved ones, especially in the care of granddaughter, Kristie Recore. Thelma enjoyed researching and documenting family genealogy way before the internet,-as well as documenting historic local events. She was an avid reader, enjoyed singing, picture taking and family gatherings.

Survivors include her children, Ronald (Shelley) LaBombard of Churubusco, Lorin (Sue Sqlego) LaBombard of Norwood, Philip (Beatrice) LaBombard of West Chazy, Sharon LaBombard of Greensboro, NC and Julie (Tom Menz) of Madison, NC; and sister, Colleen Rock of Charlottesville, VA; grandchildren, Kristie Recore, Angela, Patrick, Benjamin, Samuel LaBombard and Kathleen Hornak; great-grandchildren, Iris, Kylie, Camron and Kendyll and great, great grandchild Kinslie as well as another soon to arrive.

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard LaBombard, grandson, Bradly LaBombard, brothers, David, Gerald, Vernon and Bernard, sisters Nesta, Irene, Elaine and Lorraine as well as numerous brothers and sisters in law.

Calling hours will be held on Monday September 28th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Rabideau Funeral Home, 5614 Route 11, Ellenburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, September 29th at 12:00 p.m. at St. Edmund’s Church in Ellenburg. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Ellenburg Center Fire Department, the Alzheimer’s Association or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
